Republicans: The New Red Scare

Today it seems as though the Republican Political party has taken over not only The White House, but also the courts, congress, and media. It seems that everything that is bright and good in the world is trying to be taken away by the "conservative" and "self righteous" Republican party. For the individuals who find themselves representing the Republican party this is not a post saying "Every Republican that supports Donald Trump is evil." This is not true. I have met people who side with the Republican party who are perfectly fine and do oppose some views that the Republican party has sided with. My argument is that the Republican party is causing more bad than good.

The Republican party has a certain stereotype that they are living up to very well. One big stereotype is that Republicans hate they LGBT community. It can be argued that the part in question feel indifferent towards the community. With articles from The New York Times stating that our own Vice president has funded electric shock therapy as a means of conversion from gay to straight.

The budget cut that Republican Vice President Mike Pence proposed to cut over 300 million dollars in HIV/AIDS research and another 200 million dollars in Medical research in other fields. As of now 18 billion has been cut from multiple medical researches. The repercussions of these decisions will have medical research be set back by years due ti the budget cuts. When the Democratic party is in the White House medical is one of the top priorities.

Since the swearing in of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States of America more hate crimes, specifically anti Semitic,  popping up around the US. With our president doing nothing or even addressing the problem he sweeps it under the rug. I assume "brown people" trying to come into our country actually working hard to make a living is more important than our country on the precipice of a second civil war or even a race war.

Deportation, Budget cuts, and a plethora of other problems that concerned Americans face everyday. Along with a twitter rant here and there. You can walk down the street and ask individuals who are able to understand the politics behind it all, they are concerned. The average American individual is not worried about "Mexicans stealing our jobs" or "Manufactured goods should be USA made". The average American is worried about their futures. They worry if their medical expenses can be covered by the fluctuating health plan. They worry if it is safe to walk on the streets with out being beaten or harassed. Democrats and Republicans are so divided and against one another that we easily forget that we all want the same thing. Safety and reassurance for ourselves and also for our future.

The republican party seems to be doing more bad than good. It looks as if they are only looking out to protect the stereotype that is. Rich, white, and male. While they thrive and progress the melting pot that is the democratic party is left to fight and suffer because of the implementations of the opposing party.  Facts are facts and the terrified emotion of the American people is real.

  1. I agreed with the opinions stated in this editorial. The fact that the Republican party has taken control of almost every branch of our government has made it even more apparent that the goals of the Republican Party have become both hypocritical and un-American. Many of the goals of the party are overtly influenced by Christianity, which seems to not agree with our governments supposed separation of church and state. Also, the extreme rejection of poor people and the LGBT community seems to completely throw them off their moral high horse, as that kind of behavior is the opposite of what is biblically advised.

Joshua Pena was right in saying that while rich white males thrive, our country is stunted in so many ways. Until we can retrieve a balance of power in our national government, all we can do is hope that irreparable damage is not done to our Earth, or to minority rights.
